Contently Top Navigation/Menu Is Blurred or Not Clickable After Login

Overview

In Contently, the top navigation/menu can appear disabled or “blurred out” (not clickable) when your account is not associated with any active publication. A common accompanying symptom is being redirected to a path like /tasks even though no publications are assigned.

When the only publication your account belonged to has been deactivated, you may lose the active context required for full navigation.

Restoring access typically requires associating the account with an active context (Portfolio or active publication invite).

Solution

Issue

After signing into Contently, the top navigation/menu is visually blurred/disabled and cannot be clicked. This can reproduce across multiple browsers (for example, Brave and Safari), indicating it may not be browser-specific.

How this presents

  • Navigation/menu bar appears blurred/greyed out
  • Menu items are not selectable/clickable
  • User may be redirected to a route like /tasks

Likely cause

This behavior can occur when the user is not assigned to any active publication in Contently (for example, the only publication the account belonged to was later deactivated.

Troubleshooting / diagnosis

  1. Confirm it’s not isolated to one browser
    • Test at least two browsers (for example, Brave and Safari).
    • If it reproduces identically, proceed to account-state checks.
  2. Check whether the account has an active publication
    • Review the user’s publication memberships in your Contently admin/user management tooling.
    • If the user belongs to no active publication, this aligns with the blurred/disabled navigation experience.
    • Note any consistent redirect behavior (for example, to /tasks).
  3. Check for deactivated publication history
    • If the account was originally created under a publication that is now deactivated, the user may lose the active context needed for full navigation.

Resolution (account access / publication assignment)

Choose the path that matches the user’s intended use:

Option A — Set up a Contently Portfolio (freelance/portfolio use)

  1. Go to: https://contently.com/join
  2. Create/activate a Contently Portfolio.
  3. Log out of Contently and log back in.
  4. Confirm the menu/navigation is no longer blurred and profile options are accessible.

Option B — Re-assign the user to an active Contently publication (brand/work use)

  1. Ask the Contently-using brand/publication to send the user a new invitation.
  2. Accept the invitation and ensure the user is now associated with an active publication.
  3. Log out of Contently and log back in.
  4. Confirm the navigation is active and the profile can be updated.
