This article guides you through the steps to get started as a contributor with Contently, including setting up your portfolio, the review process, and how to engage with clients.
Information
Getting started as a contributor with Contently is an exciting step towards showcasing your talents and skills in content creation. This document will walk you through the essential steps to ensure a smooth transition into our talent network and help you understand what to expect. After setting up your portfolio, you'll be well on your way to potential opportunities with our clients.
Setting Up Your Portfolio
Your portfolio is your virtual business card on Contently. It's where you demonstrate your expertise and skills to potential clients. To get started, make sure your portfolio meets the following requirements:
- A Comprehensive Bio: Your bio should provide an insightful overview of your areas of expertise. This is your chance to introduce yourself and let clients know what you bring to the table.
- Projects and Clients: Include a minimum of 10 different projects from at least 3 different clients. This variety showcases your experience and versatility as a contributor.
- Clips: Add topics and skills to at least 3 clips in your portfolio. This helps clients find you when they search for specific content or expertise.
- Availability for Work: Once your portfolio is approved and public, mark yourself as "Available to Work" in your portfolio settings.
Once your portfolio meets these requirements, submit it using the Portfolio Submission Form described in Portfolio Visibility: Private vs Public. Our Creative Marketplace team reviews a portfolio only after it is submitted. For detailed guidance on setting up your portfolio, refer to our guide here.
Note: The Creative Marketplace team reviews portfolio submissions every Monday. If your portfolio isn't approved, keep it current with recent projects, continue to optimize it, and resubmit it using the Portfolio Submission Form described in Portfolio Visibility: Private vs Public. There's no limit and no deadline: you can submit every week, as many times as you like, and each submission gets a new review.
Completing our Training
Every qualified portfolio undergoes an initial approval process to ensure your skills align with our clients' requirements. The creative marketplace team will carefully review your portfolio to determine if you meet our criteria.
If your portfolio is approved, your portfolio page shows "Website Live"; no email is sent with the result. Your next step is the Contently freelancer training. Completing it is very important: it shows you how Contently connects freelancers with client projects and how working with clients on the platform works, so you're ready to make the most of every opportunity. Use the same email address as your Contently account, because that's how your completion is linked to your Contently account.
Being Invited to a Team
You will receive an email notification when a client or creative lead express interest in working with you. This email will contain essential information about the client and the type of content they wish to create. To join the client's team, click the "Get Started" button in the email.
Example of an email notification when you are invited to join a client's team:
Once you're staffed, we recommend sending a quick message to your Creative Lead to introduce yourself and to show that you're excited to get started on the publication. More on this here.
Summary
By following these steps and setting up your portfolio effectively, you can position yourself to engage with exciting opportunities as a contributor on the Contently platform. We look forward to seeing your work and connecting you with clients who appreciate your skills and expertise.
