Overview

This article explains how to use tags in Contently for better content organization. You'll learn how to create, apply, and manage tags to categorize your content, making it easier to search, filter, and analyze content across your publication.

Information

Tags in Contently are useful for organizing and categorizing your content. By assigning tags to stories, you can easily filter and analyze your content library, making it simpler to find specific pieces or group content by theme, format, or topic. Tags are a flexible tool that helps streamline content management and reporting.

Here’s how to use tags in Contently:

Step 1: Creating tags

  • To create a tag, navigate to your publication settings by clicking on your avatar in the top right corner and selecting "Publication Settings."
  • Under the "Tags and Metadata" section, you can add new tags by typing in the name of the tag and clicking "Add Tag."
  • Tags can represent different categories, such as content format (e.g., blog post, whitepaper), topics (e.g., marketing, finance), or any other categorization relevant to your content.

Step 2: Applying tags to content

  • When creating or editing a story, scroll to the "Tags" section in the story brief.
  • Select the appropriate tags from the dropdown menu. You can apply multiple tags to a single story, depending on its content and purpose.
  • Once applied, tags will be visible on the story page and can be used for filtering and organizing your content library.

Step 3: Managing tags

  • You can manage your existing tags by returning to the "Tags and Metadata" section in Publication Settings. Here, you can rename, delete, or add new tags as your content strategy evolves.
  • Tags can be edited or removed from individual stories at any time by navigating to the story’s brief and updating the tags section.

Step 4: Filtering and searching content by tags

  • In the Stories Library or Calendar view, you can use tags to filter content. Simply click on the "Filter" button and select the tags you want to use for filtering.
  • Tag filters help you quickly narrow down content by category, making it easier to locate specific pieces or analyze performance based on content type or topic.

Tags are also useful when generating reports, as they allow you to slice and dice content data based on the categories you’ve assigned. This makes it easier to analyze content performance and gain insights into which types of content are most effective.

Summary

Using tags in Contently provides an effective way to organize and manage your content. By creating and applying tags, you can categorize content for easy searching, filtering, and analysis. Managing tags ensures your content library stays organized, and filtering by tags helps you quickly locate or report on specific types of content.
